As we head into the final week of the NFL 17-week NFL season, the 2025 Draft lineup was impacted by the New York Giants victory this past weekend against the Indianapolis Colts where they moved from #1 Pick to #4 Pick. Now the New England Patriots hold the #1 spot in the upcoming draft, however, there's a 4-way tie with the Patriots, Titans, Cleveland & Giants which will make the final week of the NFL season a little more interesting to pay attention to.
The media has shared their thoughts and opinions as to why the New York Giants "won" this weekend when they could have secured the #1 pick in the 2025 draft. Everyone is negatively pointing fingers at QB Drew Lock for throwing 309 Yards, 4 TD's with a 97.5 QBR rating and coming out with a victory....shameful. A quarterback who is known for being a gunslinger since his days at Missouri is something that this organization needed and I think Malik Nabers (7 Rec. 171 yards, 2 TD's) can probably agree.
A lot of NFL Mock Drafts believe that drafting Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders is the right decision for the New York Giants. I would have to disagree. They lost Saquon Barkley this off-season who just hit 2,005 yards rushing with the Philadelphia Eagles with one more game to go. The Giants are currently ranked 31st in Rushing Defense while being in Top-15 in Passing Defense. So the NFL Draft needs are going to be OL & RB on offense and DL, LB & Edge on defense.
Drew Lock has started 4 games this season and has been sacked 11 times...this past weekend he was sacked 0 times and was able to put together a nice 300 yard & 4 TD game. What does that tell you? You will get a much better version of a quarterback if you can protect him. So although the media thinks the New York Giants need a new shiny QB to be the face of their franchise, they really don't. Even Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter (Colorado) doesn't fill their needs. Getting their QB protection or even a new RB like Aston Geanty (Boise State) will help boost the offense tremendously. From defensive side of the ball, load up on dominant DL/Edge & LB's like Abdul Carter(Penn State) or Mason Graham (Michigan) to stop the run.
Is Drew Lock the new franchise QB of the NY Giants? Most likely not, but if I am the GM, I am looking into deeper needs vs. what the stereotypical media suggest in drafting a "QB". This reminds me of the movie "Draft Day" where the owner and media wanted the #1 QB (Bo Callahan) but ended up drafting a LB & RB because their QB (Brian Drew) was efficient enough to run their offense and that he wasn't the issue.
Drew Lock can be the Brian Drew...what move will the New York Giants make during the 2025 NFL Draft?
